help remove blue tint from shadows in red hair

Hello all I need some help with a photo. I posted a question on this sit on 6-8-08 about taking digital photo of older photo bottom of page three. Trying to photograph this photo did no work for me. I will just have to play with fft filter and neat image. but can any one help me with the blue tint in shadows of red hair and glasses. I got katrins book third edition. Good book but a bit over my head just starting out in restoring photos. In her book chapter 9 coloring hair she suggests new layer soft light blend this worked well but on blue tint it started to remove blue but seemed to blur image in that part. I am probably using her information wrong. Need more practice. Can anyone advise me or give me a link to info to remove blue tint thanks for all your help regards ED

Ed, posting the photo always helps -- folks here find it a lot easier to understand the problem and come up with some possible solutions when they can see the image.

Edfishing, don't use auto color adjustment.
Adjust the curves or levels separately for each color channel.

Hello all thank your for your replies.Chillin thank you for your advice I will try the curve and levels adjustments. CJ I tried to upload a pic with my post the web sit would not except it said I already had same pic on different post which I did. I tried to rename pic web sit would not fall for that trick. So I mentioned old thread in new thread. Is there a way to remove old threads to by pass the problem I had. thank you all for the help you have given me. Regards ED

ED, renaming the photo does work, but you have to actually rename the file on your hard drive before you try to upload it (make a duplicate to retain your original). I could delete your other thread, but I won't since there is discussion of your other questions there.

I looked at the photos in that other thread but didn't see the problem with the blue hair - which image number are you seeing the problem in? Hopefully Chillin's tip will solve your problem.

Hello CJ thank you for replying to my question. I've attached four pics first the whole picture then three croped areas where the blue tint is. The blue tint is in the shadows and in the eye glass frame. You my need to zoom in to see the bluing better. The original picture is a 2x3 wallet my friends would like this blown up to a 8x10. I tried printing out an 8x10 and the blue tint is ever noticeable. I tried using chillins approach I was able to get rid of alot of the blue. I used a levels layer red channel but I got it to pink. But I added a mask to that adjustment layer brought my almost pink hair into the blue shadows. She now looks like a 1952 punk rocker with a bad dye job but I learned something. I need to practice more. Hopefully I well get it right the weekend when I do I would like to post it so you all can see my retouch. Create a new layer change it to "Color" mode, with the color picker click on a light part of the hair, paint with a small soft brush over the blue parts

Selective Color : Add 100% black in the blues and 40-50% yellow in the blacks.

Is this any good ?

Did spend some time with that one as it was not so bad to start with. It's probably more of a fun experimentation than anything else though.
