trying to fix the colour on parents old picture?

Hi everyone, great forum you have here. I have just scanned an old film strip for my parents however the colour is very reddish and can’t seem to fix it. At the bottom of the picture it has some of the true colour i.e. the grass is green not red. Anyone knows how to fix it?
Any help be fab!

Re: trying to fix the colour on parents old pictur

Hi Louie-

Welcome to RetouchPRO. I ran your picture through a 3rd party filter that is supposed to correct color and got nothing. Experimented with some other ideas and decided to give colorization a try. This is not a real skilled colorization job as I did not know what the hair colors were and whether it was a boy or girl in the stroller. Also, made no attempt to correct skin color, or replace any channels to correct the initial color. However, this does give you a little look at another possibility.

Louie, welcome to RP. The image has a lot of color degradation and its not very even. An application of Kodak's ROC filter brought it back into range. Now you need to go over it with the clone or healing brush to touch up some of the spots.

Colorization may still be the best bet.

Hi:

Used curvemeister and a couple of other tricks, and noise reduction. No colorization except for the off green at the bottom and top of the photo, just copied color from the rest of the grass.

I have a larger size I will upload to my own website for you if you would like to have it.

Wow, looks much greener on here than in photoshop. Will do some more with it tomorrow. I also notice that I should have masked the fabric with texture before noise reduction.

I'll try it again.

Re: trying to fix the colour on parents old pictur

I accidentally grabbed Mr. Monday's edit and was almost done when I realized. Here it is anyhow. So, what he did to it and then I colorized from there, a little hue adjustment and upped sat and USM at 14/40/0

Hi Louie,

I gave your photo a try my best shot, the colours are all over the place, there seems to be lots of specks on the photos, if someone else want to have a go they are welcome. I've mucked about with levels and curves only. i have a larger size available if you wish it.

regards

Here's my last try, again, larger photo is available if you want. I will keep them for a couple more days before I delete them. Good luck with this!!
