Creating an action/ksc to toggle brush

I'm trying to create an action or keyboard shortcut that will allow me to toggle/switch between a normal brush and a softlight brush (with one key)... the way "x" will toggle foreground and background color.

I've made a few attempts, I can set f1 to be a normal brush and f2 to softlight through actions (choosing a brush preset), but thats not quite what I'm looking for.

Any thoughts?

I don't think Actions will allow a boolan type choice. You'd have to settle for F1 and F2 to select back and forth.

Re: Creating an action/ksc to toggle brush

If you have a wacom tablet you can set the pen side switch to do that with no problem. If you have a intuos tablet with the side buttons they can be set also, but I think that the side switch will work more like what you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

interesting thought... i usually work with the button out, too many accidental hits... i may try the tablet buttons.
as far as the pen button, would you set top click to be one brush and bottom click to be another?

I'm with you Kris, I'm constantly hitting the button on the pen by mistake. Drives me nuts so I took it out of commission too. I do use the tablet buttons all the time. I especially like the one I made to convert a layer to a smart object. You have to use the keyboard shortcuts editor and assign a keyboard short cut to "Convert to Smart Object", then set the button on the tablet to perform the action.

Yes Krisdaloo. You can assign top and bottom of the switch.
I'm not a big fan of it as it is in to awkward a place, but you get used to it.
Alternatively, you can assign the brush actions as a popup in the wacom preferences.
I have about 20 or so actions that are indispensable to me that I have listed there. Click the top or bottom of the pen switch and you can have both your brushes listed right where the curser is on the screen. This way you can't accidently switch as you have to select the brush in the popup.
I think its a good workflow helper, keeps things going smoothly and your eyes on the image and what you are doing instead of the keyboard etc.
