reflection in eyes

I took several photos of my grandaughter and set about to touch up a few little blemishes and redness. But I noticed there was a very strong reflection in her eyes when I lightened them up a bit. Is it better to leave the eyes a little darker to avoid this or is the reflection actually attractive. I think the lighter eyes sparkle but the reflection is bugging me? All opinions welcome--also --did I go overboard with retouching? I usually go too far and have to back off a bit.

Re: reflection in eyes

She is adorable either way !
Normally, we try to reduce reflections/catch-lights when there are more than one. Leaving one appears quite natural to most viewers. You could always just reduce the size of the reflection to you and your family's liking.
Did you go too far? I don't think so. I think everyone will like it.

Re: reflection in eyes

Excellent tutorial on fixing lighting in eyes should work for reflections as well.

When doing portrait work, the eyes of your subject are the most important points of the image. In this tutorial, photographer Chris Alvanas takes us through the process of retouching an eye to remove a catch light, do some recoloring, get rid of red streaks and more.

I also have yes it sounds bad a collection of eyes to add back detail in the eyes makes a huge difference cheating yes but hey I am good with it eyes can make or break a great portrait so replacing the iris and pupil adding back detail to me is made of win......
