Newbie smooth skin + channels ?

Hi !

I'd like to ask for technique of smoothing skin. I olways used gaussian blur - but

skin is not quite good as I want . When I converted image to CMYK, I saw a lot of skin detailies on Yellow Channel. So there must be some way to "use" this channel for smooth ( when I tryed use clone stamp tool on the channel, but then I've got tinges on colur image )

I'd like to get skin like here : http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/att...2&d=1216783465

and here is a pic for retouch http://www.sxc.hu/browse.phtml?f=view&id=1022428

Re: smooth skin + channels ?

You never want to use any kind of blur for retouching skin. That leads to plastic.
Check out these two links here:

Re: smooth skin + channels ?

ok. Forget the file. It's just a picture of Ronald and layer examples anyhow. The directions are in the original post.

Re: smooth skin + channels ?

That's one method. Another one that I'm in the process of learning right now is a little less complex. Basically, here are the steps:

Duplicate your background layer so you leave the original intact.

Make a new layer, switch the mode to soft light and fill it with 50% gray.

Make a curves layer on top of that and give it a strong contrast curve to bring out all of the dark areas and light areas.

On the soft light layer, (zoomed into 300% or so) paint with a brush on the areas to match the surrounding pixels. The brush settings are pretty much the same as in Ronald Tan's tutorial. Paint whte on the dark areas, and black on the light areas.

Don't go over board. Leave some dark and light there so you don't completely erase the skin texture and end up with the plastic look.
