I have been out of the forum for a very long time, working, holidays (just a few days). I have saw your close-up, and have worked with some images with that technique, to understand what we are talking about, and my conclusión is:
- The finished work doesn´t look bad, and I think that, in editorial retouch, where you have few time, little budget, and the final destiny is not a very big print, works quite well.
- I consider that this technique is requires a training period to evaluate the correct proportion between surface blur, high pass, and finally, a sweet hand work with the brush, to softly mask the different layers. Not too harsh, not too soft.
I am a fun of D&B, but like Godmother said in other post: you have to evaluate the situation, not all the pictures will be printed in a very big format, and not all the works have the same time/budget. Thanks for the tip....Javier
If I can and have time enough, I will post some pic with this technique.
