Hi. I'm new.

Hello. My name is Heidi and I'm new here. I have quite a few photos from the 90s and also antique photos that are now my mom's (but that's another time lol). First off, I have some photos that are out of focus due to a bad camera I had when I was a teenager (also old photos that my mom or someone took) that have redish coloring in the pictures. So far I have one of those pictures online at photobucket.com. I don't have a photoshop one except for a free trial one as of now which is Corel Paintshop Pro XI and I tried figuring out how to make it look good but I am really bad at doing photo repair stuff in general and I'm an amateur at doing that too. The picture that I'm currently trying to do is at: http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...08073254PM.jpg and if allowed on here I am going to try to post it on here as a thumbnail so you can click on it to see the picture (hopefully). BTW, if anyone on here knows of a good, unlimited free, and easy to use photo shop software, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Heidi

P.S. Tried to post it by using preview on here but I guess this forum won't allow pics being posted. I hope the link shows up then. Remember I'm new here. Sorry.

Re: Hi. I'm new.

Welcome Heidi. There isn't much choice if you are looking for free full powered image editors. There is :

1. The Gimp

http://www.gimpshop.com/download.shtml

2. Paint.net (needs MS .NET installed on your PC)
http://www.getpaint.net/

2. Photofiltre (no layer support)

http://photofiltre.free.fr/frames_en.htm

and a few others. But since most people here use Photoshop of one version or another, any discussion or advice could get pretty confusing if you only know one of the above as their interfaces are very different from PS.

For something less sophisticated but very good nonetheless, you can try :

XNView, which is freeware and a good image viewer too.

http://pagesperso-orange.fr/pierre.g.../enxnview.html

Uploading of images to the forum is limited to <= 100 kb sized files. Your cat image was just a few kb too big.

Re: Hi. I'm new.

Thank you for your replies and help. So I take it my picture isn't fixable? I did try to make it look a little better...the color part anyway. You'd think with the new technology out there, they can fix out of focus pictures. Hehe. Oh well. Thanks again.

Re: Hi. I'm new.

I'm not sure if someone mentioned Photoshop Elements, a stripped down Photoshop. Sometimes the program comes bundled in a variety of packages. It's very good. Check it out.

BTW, some images that are soft or out of focus can be sharpened to improve the image, but it won't make it perfect, especially if the original source image is really bad

Re: Hi. I'm new.

TY for your help. I tried to fix the pic but I don't think I did very well. I still see reddish color in the pic. Grrr. I give up on it now. lol. I have a picture of my grandparents (who have since passed away) but there's a reflection from the camera light that goes into my grandmother's eyes because she had glasses on and I can't fix it for the life of me. If anyone can fix that and/or the pic of my cat for free, I'd appreciate it very much! Thanks in advance.

"Grrr. I give up on it" is not in the Retouchers vocabulary... "Practice Cubed" or "I will try again tomorrow" is!!

These are the best I could do for now... but, I will keep practicing!

Re: Hi. I'm new.

The detail was too blurred on the cat to make a clean picture, but I think a grainy one looks fairly realistic. I have a bigger version. Let me know if you want a copy and I'll upload it somewhere.

Un-grainy version as per your preference :-)

Re: Hi. I'm new.

And here's the other photo. It got a little darker in conversion to JPEG.
