Need help on tree This old black and white photo is about 60 years old. I would like to colorize it but the tree has me stumped. Nothing seems to work. Would appreciate your suggestions as to the easiest way to color the Christmas tree. Thanks

Re: Need help on tree If you are using Photoshop, create a new blank layer, set it to colour blending mode, fill it with dark green using the bucket tool, create a mask for the layer, invert the mask to black by clicking Ctrl-I (on a PC). Then select your brush tool, pick white as the foreground colour, make sure that you have selected the mask, and paint on the tree. I assume that you want a green tree.

Re: Need help on tree Hue Sat adjustment layer, tick colourize, adjust colour to colour required, OK, fill mask with black, and then paint into the mask with white with a small brush over the tree parts, and repairing any mistakes by changing to black and painting over them. Use this same method for each colour you use on the photo. Don't forget by double clicking on the layer icon you can always change the colours after the fact if they're not to your liking.

Re: Need help on tree Hi there Any time you start adding color to a B&W the first few colors don't look right. I've learned to start coloring the background then move to the foreground. I generalize the colors...for instance in my example I used two colors of green and a brown in a gradient map. Once you block in colors you can always change the gradients, hue/saturation, luminosity, opacity, or contrast to suit. Just get the color blocked in then fine tune. Butch
