well.. I'm from Ukraine and was reading there Vogue Russia (and still think it's really great). now I live in Sweden. was reading in the beginning british Vogue and didn't like it. So still buy russian one. I didn't buy Vogue Paris cuase I don't speak french. So my last choice is Russian one. It's huge, full of photos and always have new clothes from new collections (I'm fashion freak)

Re: What's your favorite fashion magazine?

I'm in Sweden aswell and prefere the Italian Vogue, Russian Vogue, French Vogue and Japanese Vogue before the British and pretty much EVERY vogue before the American one

It's a bit expensive to buy every one of them though so i try to concentrate on the Italian and Japanese vogue.

€12 i think it was last time i checked. I have to go to a somewhat larger town than i live in to buy it over the counter, otherwise it cost almost €17 to order through mail.

I like Flair out of Italy. For some reason it's not too expensive to get here in California. Sometimes I can even find it with an English translation supplement.

Re: What's your favorite fashion magazine?

Hello Thomearl and welcome to RP! I see that this is your first post...

Thanks for responding! Flair is a very nice magazine here in Italy. When it first came out, it was even better!

Are you a photographer or retoucher? You might want to introduce yourself in the salon!

Ciao!

I don't know what's harder Japanese or Russian))) so anyway Russia and Ukraine are crazy about fashion and people are spending last money on cloths. So we have a lot of fashion ads which is good for beginner retouches. But I'll try to buy Italian or French vogue next time. (Japanese is too extreme for me)
I'm in Malmö btw

Re: What's your favorite fashion magazine?

Heh. well russia has one alphabet (the cyrillic) .. Japanese has 2.. (Hiragana & katakana) + the chinese signs (Kanji). I actually shot a fashion show with designers from the Belarus region. The entire show was an hour 30 minutes actual catwalk, with 30 something designers showing 1-3 complete collections, 6-8 models on each collection. Was insane the ammount of fashion and different styles that went by there. Very impressive though =) Went home with 2700 images to deliver to my client

If you are in Sweden you can also check out the Bon magazine. Its pretty good sometimes though they do have a certain love for grey background studio shoots

And there are digital fashionmags popping up aswell like http://www.ucemag.com/
well worth a check.

Re: What's your favorite fashion magazine?

Anybody know of some relatively inexpensive fashion mags? I like numero and Vogue and have no problem paying those prices, but just want to see if there is anything like that without the price tag.

Re: What's your favorite fashion magazine?

Skauskas: Sometimes way too much. That show however was a pure documentary job so minimal retouching, just fixing exposure and colour and such. But i also shoot a lot of fashion editorial and commercial and also product shots (mostly textiles). Those are generally quite retouched.

Sirespen: I wish! But alas, im just a unknown from Borås yet. I do know one very good photographer in Malmö actually who has worked for them. You can see his work at http://www.apneaimages.com. Someday i hope i can do it aswell

Re: What's your favorite fashion magazine?

Ciao Hubba,

If you're in Sweden, why not arrange a fantastic test for possible magazine submission? You might want to contact a modeling agency like Mikas (www.mikas.se). They have beautiful models! The big problem is finding a stylist who has contacts with the show rooms! Obviously, the shoot should be for the spring/summer 2009 collections...

Good luck!

Re: What's your favorite fashion magazine?

Skauskas, that could definately be arranged. Be warned though that i do a lot of so called TFP (time for picture) work for fashion students. They dont have any money anyway so it's pointless to try to squeese any out of them so i do it for free. The thing with fashion students is that they often produce very very high quality work which can be both avant garde and haute couture in its appearance, and thats something you really do want as a photographer trying to improve your portfolio.

If you aim for the fashion editorial market, you need to show that you can produce it. And doing that with some thrown together outfit from whatever the model has in her closet will probably not cut it unless you REALLY know what you are doing. And thats why working with talented fashion students are worth a lot more than just money.
