Ciao Henrik,

If it's AMICA n. 10 - Ottobre 2008, you have the October issue

No page number but it should be something like page 550.
The editorial is named "Dressed UP".

I hope that you weren't charged too much... It only costs 3 euro here!

Re: What's your favorite fashion magazine?

Well travelling from Italy to here is expensive so it was about 8 euros + travel cost

And let me just say one thing... daeng... it almost looks like they did a high-pass "dragan-ish" to really accentuate any skin fluctuations. If you look close the skin isn't actually that bad to begin with, so had they NOT done this, it would have looked quite nice and smooth. And ofcourse he didn't use the most flattening (or flattering) lighting either.

But my personal opinion regarding these, and you have seen what i have produced to back that statement, is that these are nowhere near straight out of camera and they have been manipulated to look "worse" than they should. You see the telltale signs around their lips and eyes and edges of chin and cheek and such.

Now if the photographer actually did not do anything to these but basic colour&contrast and the rest is straight out of camera, i must say im impressed. He have almost pulled off a little Dave Hill without postprocessing ;D I mean just look at the edge of the face on the 4th picture, you see the very clear lighter line which you get when doing a too large radius on any sharpening technique. Usually high-pass =)

Feels like a publicity stunt too me.

Re: What's your favorite fashion magazine?

Ciao Henrik!

Thanks for responding and going out of your way to get the magazine!

Well, you've confirmed my assumption that there was some extra sharpening going on there... In fact, I was pretty convinced that they ran a high pass filter but couldn't understand why on earth they'd want to do so, therefore, had doubts! I visited the photographer's web page and noticed that he likes detail... but this example in Amica is a bit too much for me! It's just as bad as seeing a photo that has been overly smoothed!!! Well, we're talking about it, so maybe their "publicity stunt" was a success! And maybe Amica has a new client! Glad you like the rest of the magazine.
