wind blown hair...across face I am pretty new to photo editing, and I have a few questions. First, is there a tutorial that explains layering to a newbie...why how and when?? Second, I have a wedding photo that I would like to edit for the bride. It is a really nice picture of her and her mom but unfortunately the wind blew a strand of hair across her face as the picture was snapped. Is there a way to take the hair away without losing the structures of her face? As in her cheek bone, nose etc. Thanks for ANY help and advice!! Judy

Re: wind blown hair...across face ok...well there is no other way to do this besides looking stupid but I don't know how to resize the picture to less than 100 KB to be able to upload it. I only know how to crop something to make it smaller. HELP!!

Re: wind blown hair...across face if you have photoshop, when you save the jpg you will get the option to reduce the quality (usually around 6 i think when posting on this site?!).

| Re: wind blown hair...across face whew....now I am exhausted. I have done this before, like in photobucket and stuff...but never had this much trouble doing it. Not sure why...brain cramp maybe! Anyway...here is the photo...I just really liked the photo as it was a touching moment between bride and her mom just before her wedding ceremony. Mom walked bride down the isle and this was just as they parted. I can handle most of the rest of it...albeit I am no where near as good as most of you as I am very new to all this but trying to learn. Doing ok with clone, healing tool, that type of stuff...altho layers still confuse me. Thanks for all your help! So nice to be in a group of people with MY interests!! I love it!!!!!!! | Re: wind blown hair...across face Thanks for the warm welcome. I am liking what I see so far, and people here have been very friendly and helpful. This is the type of site I have been searching for and I am glad I was directed to it. I am using Photoshop Elements 6.0. Will check out the tutorials, thanks for sending the link. Judy |

Re: wind blown hair...across face Think of a layer as putting a sheet of transparent plastic over your real photo and painting on that instead of the picture itself. This lets you do anything you like to the image without damaging the original photo. With regard to your second question, the strand of hair covers most of her mouth. Unfortunately, there is not going to be an easy way to fix this. You are looking at basically painting in a new mouth or cutting and pasting from another picture. The rest of it runs across her cheek and should be fixable using the clone and heal tools on a blank layer (so that you can easily undo/adjust your work).

Re: wind blown hair...across face Thanks once again, guess I will just leave this photo be the way it is then. Candid shots are candid shots and I guess the bride will have to be happy I got the look they shared between them. I learned a few new things anyway, and appreciate the advice received.
