Retouching red eyes I took a snap shot of my gf few days ago and was trying to retouch it a little bit. The picture was taken in dark room and the single flash on camera was used. There is a lot of noise in the picture. What is a best route to remove the redish from eyes and keep natural look? I tried some tutorials on this but couldn't get achieve decent look. Original: http://www.proxerphoto.com/aga2.jpg My take on this: http://www.proxerphoto.com/aga.jpg I'm new to retouching and my photoshop skils are very weak. Could You also give me some advises what to improve on this? Thnx sn4il

Re: Retouching red eyes Select the eyes and do a Hue/Sat adjustment layer. Select the eyeball areas. Desaturate, then increase the brightness a little. When you are done back down the opacity of the layer to allow a small amount of the blood vessels to show thru so that the eyeballs don't look like they have been painted. There are many ways to smooth out the skin.A noise filter called Noiseware was applied to this one to smooth it out a little. You might also want to whiten the teeth a little. 1st attachment below has no noise filter. The 2nd has a noise filter applied. Regards, Murray

Re: Retouching red eyes Thank You for Your respond Murray. I like what You did to the eyeballs, but i still think they look kinda flat. Its probably due to the lightning that was used when picture was taken. I love what You did to the teeth. Could You shere your technique on this? sn4il

Re: Retouching red eyes For the teeth in the image I attached earlier, I used a Hue/Sat Adj layer to to a really quick fix to tone down the yellow. When I am not in a hurry or have a job I am doing, I will take an extra couple of minutes and do a curves adjustment in LAB color space. Often it is not necessary because the teeth only have a yellow cast. In this case there is yellow and some red/magenta. So in LAB I use locked curves and pull a tooth's Yellow point in B channel to 0, then do the same with the magenta point in the A channel. I raise the brightness in the L Channel. When done, I paint over the lips with a black brush to restore the unwanted areas where the curve adjustment spilled over. See attachment below. There are many techiques to to whiten teeth. Just google Whiten teeth Photoshop. Regards, Murray

Re: Retouching red eyes Alot of times I will add in a radial gradient over the eye whites. Since the eye is really a "Ball"... the center of the eye is usually white and the edges of the ball are ever so slightly darker at the edges. This 3D darkening treatment of the "eye ball" at the edges of the eye...give it back that 3d look...instead of the eye whites looking flat, painted and artificial. You could also create a separate layer above... and kind of "vignette" the edges of the eye whites to give them some depth and ball roundness instead of the "Flat White" look. This could be hand painted in or the radial gradient can be used. Ray12
