Making lips sparkle/shine

I'm hoping someone can give me a good technique for a style I've seen used often to add a sparkly gloss look to lips like in the photo attached. Any hints would be appreciated.

I may be putting up some Photoshop "Lip Gloss Paint Brushes" that will accomplish what you are looking for within the next few weeks. It is so VERY challenging and difficult to get these lip glosses to look natural and real! I used to use a Dodge and Burn technique... but it often changed the base color of the lip as well.

Out of frustration like yours, I finally ended up taking several NYC models, put them into a controlled studio environment, and developed some gloss isolation techniques so I could extract just the "shine only" part of the gloss and create Photoshop Brush Sets. You stamp them down on the lips...free transform them into position...then adjust the shine level with opacity.

I have created a very preliminary lip gloss video tutorial that I would be willing to share...if it is helpful... that goes through several different methods of lip gloss creation...hand drawn... the color replacement method...and the usage of lip gloss brushes. Its 19 minutes long unfortunately...so its a bit lengthy!! I hope to be able to cut it down shortly. Theres some tips and tricks in there that may generate one or two ideas you might be able to use possibly.

Very informative video and many many thanks. I just wanted to give you a suggestion to speed up not only your workflow, but to shorten your video.

Your command: shift+control+Alt+n>>e
For what you are doing, creating a snap shot... you only need to press: shift+control+Alt+e

It will automatically make a new layer for you. After you said the command, I completely saw its usefulness so I plugged it into one of my mouse buttons, but it only allowed one letter. So I chose "E" and found when I press the button, it does everything automatically.

You have been backtracking!!

You are correct...the site is NOT up as yet...there are only some placeholders there right now. Im just getting to work on it some during the Thanksgiving break. Im mostly doing digital makeup video tutorials this week...then... im going to have to work more on the web site itself more.

Wish me luck...at the rate im going...I hope to have some stuff up in a couple of weeks hopefully! Too many technologies all going on at once! Its been very slow.

Igot2, thanks for your feedback on length...I felt it might be too long too...I can break it into 3 separate parts...6 min each possibly.

sidhebeauty - if you like you can PM me...I could send you several gloss brushes to experiment with if you like...they would produce results like you show in your images.

Never tried doing the glossy lips thing before. Looked at the techniques on the video, and thought I'd try something different. Here it is, nothing special but if I spent time on it there is potential.

If you notice, where she has added gloss, there were already natural highlights on the lips, so I dont think this was done using a brush(whike its and excellent idea and I would love to buy some!)
