John,
Everyone has given you good ideas. I thought I would throw one more out. Often when I work with baby pictures in b&w, I redirect the light some and add just a hint of color to inanimate objects, usually pink or yellow work best.
Here is a quick example using your image. Used a soft spot from 2 o'clock and added just a little yellow to the blanket. Again, just a thought.
