d&b tutorial download

I found this great video tutorial on deviantart.com by Nienna1990. It pretty much shows you how to create the professional retouched look.

http://nienna1990.deviantart.com/

to download it, just click the link in her journal on the right side. it's a megaupload website where you download it from.

hope it helps a bit for those who wanted to see how it's done.

Re: d&b tutorial download

Great video, takes over an hour to DL but it is worth it. Its like something you would pay for but its free. very good quality.

If anyone is wandering how to get the B&W effect to show discolorations, its:
Two black filled layers in a folder
One set to color blending mode
The other set to overlay (more powerful) or soft light blending mode (adjust opacity if too dark)

(turn the folder on and off to show hide)

Thanks for posting,
-Keven

This may sound stupid, but I don't get the first part. How does she get it black-white? I mean, what's there under the map 'tools'?

Its a Divx codic. You have to go to divx.com and download the FREE player. It will install the codex for all your players.

I know this will work on windows but that should help.

Re: d&b tutorial download

I really had my eyes opened to the amount of work involved in the D&B retouch, I need to work out the set up for the tools group layer2 and layer3. The D&B is pretty straight forward but wasn't sure what the layer4 in the group2 below the D&B's purpose?

Click on the link and it will take you to the web site. You have to enter the 3 letter code (caps sensitive) in the text box next to it.

The next page will show you a premium or free option. You should see a 25 second countdown under the free. Once it is done with the countdown, click the free download at the bottom where the countdown was.

Click save and put it somewhere you can find. Desktop would be the easiest.

Then wait till it’s done downloading. Open the file and choose a place to extract, again desktop is the easiest.

In the Tools group layer 2 = new layer fill with black blending mode color
Layer 3 = new layer fill with black blending modes overlay and soft light only for viewing purpose
The Layer 4 under The D&B layers is The healing layer used to remove the spots or big marks that will be tedious doing it with D&B technic using clone or healing brushes.

Hope it helps

Re: d&b tutorial download

I just watched the first half of it but I am a little confused by the layer group 'tools'. Is it used to make it more obvious where to dodge and where to burn? What is the idea/theory behind it? All I saw is a layer set to blend mode = overlay.

You are correct, it is used to more easily see blemishes... look below for an example (Its a 100% crop from a left cheek, corrected with only D&B).

Its a simpler version of a Curves layer with an "s" curve and desaturate (last picture). The theory is that the black, overlay (blending mode) makes the darks darker and the black, color (blending mode) makes the highlights easier to see and makes the picture B&W.

Its a zip file. There are plenty of free extrators at download.com.

My favorite one is 7-Zip and can be downloaded HERE. Once installed, just right click on the image and choose extract here. (this is for windows of corse, there are mac software im sure)

Hope it helps,

Re: d&b tutorial download

Rar is a compression format, like zip. Google "winrar" and I think you'll find un-rarring utilities.
