Removing a shadow

Hi there I'm really struggling removing the shadow over the left shoulder of this photograph. Its for a hairdressing competition so I can't really cut it out and paste onto a new background either because I don't want to change the hair in anyway.

Any advice?

Hi Krrmtchll! Welcome to RetouchPro! Explore and Enjoy!

Just add a layer above then use the eyedropper to get the lighter color and with a soft brush at about 40% opacity start painting in the shadow. Start at the outside edge and make one pass to cover the whole area (don't "dab" or "smear" the paint). Continue until you've got it the way you like it.

Re: Removing a shadow

My try, very quick not perfect.

Select bg colour with eyedropper, add adjustment layer solid colour, mask out what's needed, merge down, clean up odd bits with d&b tool, or healing brush
