My son in the sun

I took my two youngest boys out to Palo Duro State Park (it is a miniature Grand Canyon.) I thought that this picture of my 10 year old son had promise. I was attempting to to bring out his eyes and emphasize the light shining on him from the top right of the picture. I lowered the contrast on the back ground and sharpened him a little bit. Does any one have any advise on what to do to improve this? I kinda like the stalk of grass in front of his face. What do you think?

Re: My son in the sun

There are a cupple of color casts (yellow and purple), and a few uneven spots.

Below is my redition. If you have any questions ask.

Mostly select vibrence punches, and hue/sat adj. Sharpen and brightness/contrast.

Re: My son in the sun

Of the 3 shown I prefer no.2 , there does seem to be a bit of a purple in the flesh , but it is'nt enough to worry about ( on my monitor , that is ) . On your 3rd there is quite a lot of
yellow on his shirt ,that isn't there on no.2 . How you can rectify it I'll leave up to you !.Hope this is of help , I'm no expert as you well know . Bill

Kilph, I like the shot! Keep the wheat or whatever!!

I did not do any color corrections other than do a levels adjustment.. So my colors may be off also..
After doing a levels adjustment I used my method as explained here to bring out the highlights and shadows then used the dodge and burn tools on the eyes which were masked back in from the leveled layer... then a tad of sharpening.. a couple crops... Dun!
