Workspace Organization

I usually have 3 things on my PS desktop when I work. An original copy of my image, a large work image, and a New View copy so that I can see what the overall image looks like as I'm making changes to a large version.

It really helps me when I'm working in close up to be able to see the overall picture as the changes take place without having to keep reducing and enlarging.

I have to start doing that. I certainly have the screen space to accomodate the extras. Thanks Jak

Jak, I really like the idea of not having to reduce/enlarge all the time. I'm not sure I completely understand the "New View" image though. Are you saying that the changes you make to the working copy show up "real time" in the "New View"? If so, how do you do that? If not, can I assume that as you finish working on a section in the working copy, you make a copy of the image for your "New View"? Sorry - no caffeine yet this morning so my brain is working a little slow...

Yes, they show up in "real time". It's very helpful.

With the image you're working on active, pull down your View menu and click on New View. Reduce it and make the original one larger. You'll see the changes appear on the small one as you're working on the large one.

Hi Jak,
What a great idea.. Thanks.

Everything is new, I have only been using Photoshop for a month. Information overload, or what!!!

My problem is I don't have the New View option in the view menu.
I have PS7 on Windows XP. Am I doing something wrong. Your help and guidence would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Paris:

Welcome to RetouchPRO. I'm going to pinch hit for Jak since she's taking a little time off.

The "New view" command was replaced by the following one in PS7:

Window > Documents > New Window

Not to worry. All of us started at the same place with Photoshop: The beginning. Half the fun is climbing the learning curve.

Hi Danny,

Your pinch hitting solved that problem - thank you.
And thank you for the welcome, such a friendly place and helpful people are rare on the anonymous, impersonal WEB.

Screen Scraper (?)

In Jakaleena first post on this thread she shows her screen shot. I have also noticed in other threads other people will show screen shots. I believe it was somewhere in this forumn by the founder he recommended a product to do this. Does anyone know the name of the product or of a good product to use to do that?
Thanks
Bob

Bob:

If you're using Windows:
* Alt + Print Screen will copy the full window to the clipboard.
* Alt + ctrl + Print Screen will copy the active dialog box.

If you want to capture menus, too, you'll need something a little more sophisticated like the programs suggested so far.

Here's the one I use (PrintKey 2000): http://www.freewareweb.com/cgi-bin/a...nload=1&ID=292

Hey
My screen (17" tft) aint big enough to really use your idea
But why make a new view instead of just using the Navigator to see the hole image while your zooming in? Thats also make it easy to jum from one eye to another while zooming in all the time.

Second i have set 3 difrent workspaces up. one for browsing with the imagebrowser. One for colorcorrections and one for retouch. Its nice to have since then you only have the palets open you need.

I like Hypersnap DX, but there are many other tools out there to do screencaps.
