Selecting Bird Plumes

I've learned a lot from this site recently, but this image has me stuck.
I'm in the process of cloning out the branches behind the Egret, but as you can see one of the branches collides with the white plumage. Is there any way to select either the plumage or branch?

I am probably way out on this one and will follow the thread to see how it should be done

My inspirational bit was to clone out the branch and plumage then clone back in some plumage with out the branch
this is a real quick go ( couple of minutes to see if it would work ) so what you think ?

I'd say that was a pretty good fix, except it sort of closed in and lost the delicateness of the fine plumes. But it sure beats having the branch there.

If there are no other ideas I'll use it. Thanks.

What's the difference between those 2 images you posted? I don't see it.

I would think with time and the full res image it could be made to look much better

Okay Palms. What do you think of this?
I cloned the plumes as you suggested, and then with the brush added color between the fine hairy feathers.
Please point out any improvements you think can be made.
