what I notice and seems concerning is that the photographer is the one who always gets the credit and recognition...am I wrong?

From what I know, or rather, in my world, everyone involved gets credit. Don't know too many people who claim it for themselves, and if they do, they're wrong.

I think the tog would get more recognition from the general public that don't know how a production works - almost like the lead singer of a band.

yeah it's klimt ! very good eye :-)

take one exemple: Mister Karl Lagerfeld. never been a photographer. and suddenly since 1998 he became one. how ? by employing the best photo assistants, best make up, best etc.
the hard truth im affraid is that if a photographer doesnt have real creative mind in fashion photo and the strenght to sell his ideas, he'll be just pushing the button and become a pawn... photography is so simple these days.
And that is what i see in today's most fashion photographers, is that they're an simple image maker. they dont think the image, don't build it anymore.

"made me realise the biggest talent most photographers need is salesman skills, the rest can be paid. " - That's so true. You get some technically very good photographers who cant deal with or value people, or their retouchers. And are struggling, because everyone 'lets them down'. Its all about sales, personality, and diplomatics. Most people seem to WANT to work with photographers who have those, mostly learned, skills.

"Every aspect of the shooting were done with the same intensive attention. and the images that came out needed only a few touch up, skin was perfect" - yes its all about planning, and a lot of attention to detail. most good peoples work is already 80% of the way there, before a retoucher gets involved that's true. Not sure about skin though, regardless of makeup that's never perfect unless you are shooting 18 year olds.

Was it Testino, Robertkacala?
