How to retain skin texture when down-rezzing?

I have portraits which are retouched with good skin texture in full-resolution and printed versions. But when I down-rezz to web size, the texture is obliterated. How do you retain, or get back the skin texture?

When you resize in Photoshop, you can choose option sharpening best for reduction.

It's hard to do this really- think about it. At full resolution you see all the tiny detail. Then you *downsize* it, (significantly if it's for web) and you still want to see the tiny little details? That's tough- you can try the sharpening best for reduction like L33t suggsets, but I find this leads to overly sharp images, especially on edges.

Try a light sharpening mask on the skin once you downsize, or- oversharpen the full size a little bit so that when you downsize, it keeps a little more 'texture'.

Yep... that's the one. I've tried many other ways, but that works the best.
