More serious attempt

Hey all,

I'm trying to improve my dnb, I'm after the typical magazine look. I think retouching could be something I could get into, so please take a look at the before and after of this shot of Beyonce.

Am I getting anywhere close to the standard required?

How much further have I got to go?

What have I missed?

And more importantly How do you know when enough is enough?

Please take a look and let me know what you think

Thanks

Schlink

(oh and don't be too harsh, I'm just starting out)

(and still no blurring or "degrunging")

Hey Schlinky, I think you posted the 'before' in both links ...
(or you have gone nowhere near far enough )

Re: More serious attempt

Lookin nice.
A couple of things stick out at first glance:
1. more texture retained
2. uneven skin
3. distracting hairs
4. camera-right eye white is too white near top for me

hope this helps.

Re: More serious attempt

yep, good comments thanks. I was looking at the hairline too.

So you think it's too smooth in the 'T-zone' and I need to retain more pores?

And those pesky hairs, just clone them out?

Re: More serious attempt

Areas I was concerned about (and didn't know if I was needless worrying) were between left eye and hair (outside eyebrow) and also right corner of mouth.

I also need to get hold of some better images (preferably raw), felt like I was chasing jpeg artifacts for a while!

yes, a little more pores in those spots for my tastes.
try highpass sharpening on those areas.

the hairs ... cloning (with rotate source) is a way to do it. its time-consuming.
I also have done it with a small hard smudge brush, and also a method using motion blur and darken blend mode. tough to explain.

good luck.

Re: More serious attempt

Acceptable solution to the hair problem? Kind did a variation on a theme with your darken mode idea.
