I know I'm good at it and I really enjoy it. I have some potential clients in upstate NY (wedding photographers mostly) but b/c of my inexperience and lack of references for this field I'm scared to charge too much and scare the client off. It's not a big city (just small towns) and these photographers are charging very little to their clients to begin with so it's been hard negotiating.

I was thinking I could charge some sort of flat fee of around $600 per wedding for just basic cleanup, color, and resizing. Anything more would be some kind of per hour basis?
As far as I know, wedding bassic retouch is charged between $0,90 and $2 usd. Most wedding photographers earns between $800 and $1200, how could you be paid $600?

Re: what should we be charging?

The particular photographer I'm talking about charges a base rate of $3000, so I think that's fair to say I would get $500-$600 as a flat rate for retouching about 1000 images right?

But again we disagree on some of our own country standards.

This is Fashion and Beauty Photogs from Argentina

http://www.andych.com/ I don't think she is afraid of retouching.

http://www.gabrielrocca.com He seems to be doing well too.

http://www.urkosuaya.com Also doing pretty well.

http://www.rauldechapeaurouge.com/ one more

I could keep going but I think u get the point.

I don't know what kind of mags u buy - But try something like Elle Argentina, u'll be surprised

U do need some confidence on your self, $6 an hour is low rate EVEN in Argentina.

xx
That's the better we have? I thought those links will surprise me. Photography is just normal. Retouching too... Urkosuaya photo, the area of advertising looks like the adverts from the Disco Supermarket, seriously, I can taste the tasteless. The portraits are just bad, the b/w is very poor there. The other sections are just right, nothing really interesting.

ACH is worst than Urokaya. Absolutely mediocre for my taste. Check fashion section/Agustina Basualda... That's the paradigm of bad taste).

Rocca, that's really good. Absolutely elegant, with style and tastefull. I will check that later. I have to go in some minutes.

Raul impronunciable surname is really normal, flat, mediocre.

Overall, those are the typical flat mediocre argentinean photos without creativity and taste found in silly magazines for teens and the like. Except for that guy, Rocca. He really worths attention.

And check this guy: http://saschahuettenhain.deviantart.com/gallery/

You must be kidding right? you honestly think that most photographers are going to give away 1/6 of their earnings for a shoot to the retoucher? Not these days. Retouching is seen by most of that level photographers, now underneath MUA or or prop moving assistant. And mostly they are happy getting the results that demonstrate their tightness. As for 1000 images, that's just ridiculous, you need to recommend they buy Lightroom - FORCE them to make their choices, or tell them where to get off.

I'm not sure Godmother was trying to say that all those sites are really GOOD images Quantum, maybe she's trying to help you find work?

I don't think that, the last time we had a conversation she was quite mad at me. I personally disgust quite a lot what found in those sites, except for the guy Rocca. I just arrived to my flat, so will see what about him right now. You know, is quite frustrating that all advertisement made here looks that way. Being a photographer here is quite frustrating because the standards. If you look into the links I posted you will never find that kind of ART in magazines from here and those photographers will not be very welcomed around here. You know most than anyone adds are meant to sell products and that's directly linked to what the people would buy through an image and how that people would be persuaded to buy. It can be say there is a "culture of consumerism". The more educated the consumer, the better the add. Those links from GodMother are the very top of fashion from here. Each country has adversitements that match the culture of the citizens of the country, the same with tv programs.

This is what people buys more (there are some important enterprises and cloth stores too):

http://www.parati.com.ar/

http://www.cosmoonline.com.ar/

http://www.mia.uol.com.ar/edicion_1240/

http://www.revistamilopciones.com/principal.php?se=moda

http://www.cosmohispano.com/index.php

http://www.kosiuko.com/

http://www.onasaez.com/

http://www.rapsodia.com.ar/argentina.php

http://eufemiaba.com.ar/ (these ones are a bit better).

http://www.gente.com.ar/

http://www.caras.uol.com.ar/

http://www.bagovit.com.ar/

etc...

Re: what should we be charging?

What you are showing is just basic commercial level mostly catalog stuff, some of it international looks like. Same anywhere you go. Not every photographer is trying to be Steven Meisel.

I also to be honest I don't agree with your assessment about the links that Natalia gave you - and I certainly don't see how on earth anyone would think the best of them is that guy Rocca.

Re: what should we be charging?

I have been looking some of the Rocca's pics and just the first ones looks perfect. There are some bad taste ones and some very creative but certainly I just stopped looking at his gallery, tehre are some gross "rebel wannabe" that just are a waste of time.
