Re: help changing color of tshirt!

Try Multiply. If you don't like the results, experiment with all of them, until you see what they do for you.

Try inverting the colour and then de-saturating.

Re: help changing color of tshirt!

I'm wondering how to do a professional color change, a technique that will work with almost every color. The harder ones are to shift brighther colors to darker and viceversa, any tip?

Re: help changing color of tshirt!

try using color range play with it until you get a good selection of only the shirt. and then while selection is still active paint with you choice of color. then set blending mode to color. you might need to do alittle clean up on some areas. Worked pretty good for me.

Yes, I do that as well. Thank you anyway. Did you tried with Channel Mixer? Is faster and works much better, but it's a bit hard to achieve the tone you're looking for.

seriously,

the tip given by Xaran is a great approach! All I need is some attention to the shadow areas because they turn white and inverting. now i am working on fixing those!

BTW, I would not mind to hear anohter pro tip to get rid of this "negative" looking shadows!

cheers

Re: help changing color of tshirt!

If You Select the T-Shirt Using one of the selection tools e.g. the lasso tool then copy it and put it in a new layer. then with that layer go to

Enhance -> Adjust Color ->Adjust Hue/Saturation -> Select Colorize -> pick your Hue

This will work for almost anything including hair

Re: help changing color of tshirt!

hi stefanrvercelli,

this method doesnt seem to work with bright colors when trying to turn them into dark colors (my case)

still working on the shadows....

I will let you guys know if I come up with great results!

Re: help changing color of tshirt!

WEll... inverting gives a problem with the shadows... Color blending gives fluorescent colors, also quite "transparent" colors... Techniques that involves saturation gives the same resutl than blending in color. So, selective color? Let see... Well, yeah, seems to be the best way...

Re: help changing color of tshirt!

The example below is a picture from Stock Exchange - the original is cream but this should work with any light colour.

Copy background twice.

on first copy remove background and invert colour and desaturate (whichever method you prefer - I used a black and white adjustment layer) this will give a dark grey colour. with light shadows etc.

on second copy remove background and desaturate, use a levels adjustment to darken until the bulk of the T shirt is a mid grey. Set blending mode to darken or multiply (I used darken). Apply a slight gaussian blur. clean up edges if necessary.

Re: help changing color of tshirt!

okay,

I think I got a satisfactory result... will try to post images later, but here is what I have done:

first I just spent an awful lot of time to get the best mask could get. Did that using a selective color layer boosting the blacks on red, yellow, neutral and black channels. with that highly contrast-y image I managed to get a great selection of tshirt.

now I had a group for the masked tshirt, inside the group I had the following layers:

Selective colors (normal) with +50 black on RED, +75 black on Yellow, +20% black on Neutrals and +100% black on Black channels!
this gave me and darker (very contrast-ish) and low saturated yellow... but most of all it brought a lot of texture that was blown out on yellow shirt

on top of that I had a Hue Sat laye (Saturatio) just bringing the yellow and red channel down to mid gray

then I added a Curves layer (multiply) boostin all the dark points...

that was it...

on top of this group I added a Hue Sat (Saturation) layer to catch the yellowish glow that was bouncing off the shirt by desat-ing and bringing luminosty down!

Pheeeeeew! thanks for all the help, I think I am pleased with results! For now!

Re: help changing color of tshirt!

Nothing pushes color around like LAB.

This was done with a single curves layer.
