I believe the same, images with hair were used.

but anyway. let's not create the conflict from nothing thank you for tips Godmother
now now people let's play nice here. You're asking someone for advice, how was something done. Someone donates their time to answering your question, which she really did (NO REALLY) but in the process of giving you information for nothing, she also describes her opinion.

You get one with the other, as this is still an internet forum. Also tellin you that it's a pretty shitty image is helpful. If you train yourself looking at stuff, then you recognize good work, which will help you in effect to do better work.

And she was also spot on on how this was done, I'd say there's some extra shots, that were straightened, warped, etc and put in.

The method you posted I use sometimes or the smudge tool and smudge existing hair when needed.

Snook
The tutorial posted always looks fake or smudge.
T'is OK Snook,... because I agree.... the 'after' photo presented by the OP is probably a total replacement or composite using hair from different hair source images or mats. I think any retoucher worth his/her salt should have a vast library of resource images for hair, skin, pores, lips, eyebrows, makeup, etc.., or anything else that may possibly be used as mats..

On the other hand I have seen work by people who have an extensive art background who also use Photoshop and they do photo-realistic drawing within their Photoshop work that anyone would be hard pressed to distinguish from real or hand drawn from scratch... Just because we can't do it does not mean it can't be done... it sort of depends on your individual expertise.. my drawings look like they were done by a two year old instead of by Van Gogh or da Vinci

First of all, what is going on with all the Assholism in this thread? Natalia is simply saying that his work is not what she thinks the poster shoul be striving to recreate. That is all. While everyone is bitching about no one asking her for her opinion, quit worrying about other people and just answer the question. No need to go to peoples flickr pages and tell them they need to work on their techniques because we all do or we would not be here.

ANYWAY.

As it has been mentioned before, the photo is a mixture of cloning and additional photos.
