Re: HELP: How to add a realistic tan?
Check out your blue channel, usually has a lot of skin detail. Sometimes I -
CMND+Click to make a selection of Blue Channel
CMND+J from your background or composite layer
CMND+J again to create a copy of this new layer
Put both layers in a group, name "Skin Darken"
In this group, set bottom layer to Multiply, top layer to Softlight
Adjust opacity of these layers, say Multiply@40%, Softlight@20%
Add mask for skin areas to group, then adjust opacity to suit
Use the skin mask again and create a Hue/Sat adjustment layer above the group and Desat skin to suit.
When using this technique, you may also want to mask out any dark shadows that exist on the skin, as these will get darkened too, I use a luminosity mask for this and paint it onto the existing mask of the group.
