Ok, about post processing:
I was made this picture without flash lamp, only sun. steps:

1. clean and sharp image.
2. D&B
3. minimize saturation
4. high key
5. layer with gradient( black to dark yellow, opacity about 10-15%)
6. Add rain and thunder
7. D&B
8. Add noise 3-5 %
9. Add scrath and dirty textures
10. One more time sharpen but with very small radius

In this image I used D&B many many time, it is really powerfull tool !!

I don't use any plugins like lucis, topaz. this is not HDR.
I will show you today orginal photo but later. I am working now

this is another war shot postprocessing method is the same too.

Where do you take these war pics? They are really cool and this new one is awesome, looks like it was taken in 1942.

Hey Gamedonechanged, sorry for the delay.. try using small amounts of surface blur, or experimenting with other blurs and sharpening. I like to use Imagenomic Portraiture for some skin smoothing.. works very very well, you have a lot of options and masks.

Re: Official "The Look" Thread

Hi Cypisek...one question for you on your workflow, why do you use a gradient, what effect does this achieve?

many thanks,

I couldn't resist, I loved my image, but I HATE the fact I cut off her foot.. was so mad when I looked at it, because I could of sworn I didn't cut it off when I shot it lol.

Just added another one..

Re: Official "The Look" Thread

Thanks Cyp.

Re: HDR, when doing my fine art portraits, I have in the past used Photomatix to process a single RAW, then used this pseudo hdr as my base layer in Photoshop. I've had mixed results, as in some instances the tonemapping process, whilst revealing a lot of detail, produces greyish skin tones.

It's hit and miss.

For those interested here is another one of my fine art portraits. Again, my technique doesn't utilise the 'illustrated' look but is simply a different take on thing:

Cypisek, I don't think Calvin is doing HDR with this images.. but I can tell you yes I know how to do some neat HDR stuff separate from my portraits.
