Ok, about post processing:
I was made this picture without flash lamp, only sun. steps:

1. clean and sharp image.
2. D&B
3. minimize saturation
4. high key
5. layer with gradient( black to dark yellow, opacity about 10-15%)
6. Add rain and thunder
7. D&B
8. Add noise 3-5 %
9. Add scrath and dirty textures
10. One more time sharpen but with very small radius

In this image I used D&B many many time, it is really powerfull tool !!

I don't use any plugins like lucis, topaz. this is not HDR.
I will show you today orginal photo but later. I am working now

this is another war shot postprocessing method is the same too.

Where do you take these war pics? They are really cool and this new one is awesome, looks like it was taken in 1942.

Hey Gamedonechanged, sorry for the delay.. try using small amounts of surface blur, or experimenting with other blurs and sharpening. I like to use Imagenomic Portraiture for some skin smoothing.. works very very well, you have a lot of options and masks.

Hi Cypisek...one question for you on your workflow, why do you use a gradient, what effect does this achieve?

many thanks,

I couldn't resist, I loved my image, but I HATE the fact I cut off her foot.. was so mad when I looked at it, because I could of sworn I didn't cut it off when I shot it lol.

Just added another one..

Re: Official "The Look" Thread

Thanks Cyp.

Re: HDR, when doing my fine art portraits, I have in the past used Photomatix to process a single RAW, then used this pseudo hdr as my base layer in Photoshop. I've had mixed results, as in some instances the tonemapping process, whilst revealing a lot of detail, produces greyish skin tones.

It's hit and miss.

For those interested here is another one of my fine art portraits. Again, my technique doesn't utilise the 'illustrated' look but is simply a different take on thing:

Cypisek, I don't think Calvin is doing HDR with this images.. but I can tell you yes I know how to do some neat HDR stuff separate from my portraits.

Re: Official "The Look" Thread

Cypisek i really like that image, I also am intrigued by your signature at the bottom, I am interested on what people can come up with for signatures on their image without destroying the image or making it too big.

Bad news though, I lost my main computer I was using to do business and photoshop on. Very bummed out, I won't have a new computer for a few weeks or more. I am on my laptop now, which can still run photoshop, but not as well. I will do my best to edit images on here though.

Re: Official "The Look" Thread

Hi Cyp, nice shot.

My only comments would be the fact that the subjects should be a little bit darker to reflect the night time consditions, and also the addedd darkness would reflect that their clothing would be wet from the rain.

Nice production though :-)

Re: Official "The Look" Thread

Nice work cypisek...with regard to teh last shot, I have same comments as before, the models needs to reflect the background a touch more, i.e., slightly darker and wetter.

Here is a shot i have just finished working on...again something slightly different:

I also love this one, especially the harmonious colors. One problem, when manipulating the shape of the eye, it's important to keep the iris' circular shape. Otherwise it looks obviously warped. Besides that, great job!

I've just finished it so there may be a few mistakes that i have missed...boy do i need a beer. This was quite a tricky shot to get finished.

As ever the jpg version looks shit, the psd is much cleaner :-)

is there any point why her feet seem to be masked out of some lawn while in the composition shes on flat asphalt? i kind of like the atmosphere, i just think that it would be better without the woman completely :o))

Thanks Adam. The feet were a right nightmare. I've had this image in my head for ages. Ideally I would have shot the girl on location but it;s so windy that my lights would have taken off. i was pressed for time so could only shoot her at her house on a lawn, thus the issue with the feet.

There was actually grass growing through the concrete in places, so I might add a litle bit more to make it look more realistic.
