Re: Official "The Look" Thread

to red sky
you have to load your luminosity mask in your channel palet
Ctrl click on the channel you want to load (dark, light, midtones)
then click on the mask icon to apply on the image
cheers

duplicate twice the background

then run a gaussian blur to your taste.
merge down (ctrl E)
set the blending to overlay or soft light.
Calvin described a little further the ACR settings is using in this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr12ZfPK2co
in the second part (the black and white ACR)
don't push too far the clarity for halos (not more than 40)
play with the color cursor for luminosity.

Thanks a bunch Skilove! Any more images coming from you yet? I will have some shortly

Re: Official "The Look" Thread

He did not talk about lighting and I have both sessions recorded by the way.
And the second one was pretty lame actually. The first one was way better.
They also made it seem like Olaf was going to show how he was doing/did the Hulk pictures. Even in the forum chat I asked him if he was going to go through it and they said yes. Then he talked about Sharpening for about 45 minutes. Then Calvin talked about one image really and it was short and pretty much the same as the first live deal but less informative, atleast for those who saw the first one.
Great effort by them and the idea is great but many waiting for 2 weeks for this show and it just was not worth the wait if you ask me and I saw the other one. The other Calvin talked about 3 images of different types of photoshopping where this one he talked about one image where the simple Nik color effects filter or Lucis plug in on low opacity is what gives the image some "Look" as you all call it here. The other was his Hue Saturation (color checked) on a Softlight layer.

Not much more information than that really, which has been explained many times here.

If you ask me the the retouch pro sessions are much better and cost 10.00$ pretty good deal and they last about an hour or so. Gry's lasted 2 hours the other night.
There is an old saying, you get what you pay for..
2 Side notes:
When I gave my opinion they tried to cut me off all the time, when all I was trying to do was give constructive criticism which they did not like and some other guy GAST 10 kept calling me snook , which I did not understand until I came in here and saw all his post (snoks).
In any case for those who missed it, SkiLove (sp) has explained it here and much better if you ask me.
Just like Calvin repeats in his tutorials, there is no trick.
He choses the short cut of using filters and others use Luminosity masking. And he does the same thing told here over and over again.
contrast, usually B&W on a softlight layer. The Lucis or Nik with a smoothing or denoising layer and that is about it. No trick. Get the lighting right off the bat and you'll be 80% there.

Cheers
Felix
