as far as lighting, it looks like there was one light used 45 degrees to the left of the camera and 45 degrees above the model's face. The dress, I would be tempted to say that you can achieve this look with the use of the warping tool in PS. For the skin tone, you can desaturate the skin in a separate layer and then adjust opacity to retain some of the original color and tone. Hope this gets you started.

bright / white skin like Kristian Schuller

Should help you with the skin.

The image look like a painting, Can be done by reducing noise. Then the dress with D&B to make look metallic.

Re: Can someone PLEASE help me with this photo sty

Prob not a possibility due to damage to dress etc, but I would prob just try to tie the dress up at each point with thin string/thread to attachments at side (out of view). Then put a fan blowing straight onto the model? This will hold the dress in the 4 points and will blow naturally.

Then any string/thread that can be seen will be easy to clone out on a black background. I'm sure I seen David La chappelle doing something like this and I think the dress was tied up with a fan on it. But then again he has the budget to rip dresses!

Judging by the shadows (nose cast down, purse cast up) I'd guess there is a light above and below the lens. For the dress you could try attaching fishing line to small safety pins and suspending the dress from the ceiling or overhead support, or... having assistants on each side tossing the dress up. Perhaps use a studio fan too (rent a good one from a studio supply house). Might require a combination of techniques to get good dress shots, then combine and warp in PS to suit.

White skin is discussed a lot around here, do a search. Get a good hair and makeup artist too.

awww u said please

This picture has been HEAVILY manipulated (The dress is made out of several images)

To get the dress to "Blow" like that... just take several pictures with someone HOLDING the edges then remove the hands (I've done that before, some times they hold it, some times it's tied with strings)

the lighting... I think the BG has been painted in too, they maybe started with a black BG but then they made it darker.

the tone of the dress and the swimming hat it's masked and treated in a very different way as the skin and i'm suggesting using different conversions from the raw -skin-clothing-BG

Good luck!

Re: Can someone PLEASE help me with this photo sty

Hi,

there is a lot already said about the techniques, used for this photo in this topic.

I have taken a careful look and i am pretty sure, on the body, and on the smooth hat, there is a plastic glimmer. Probably on top, in one layer, only used for the body an the hat.

Or the plastic filter is used or, the Lightning Effects filter in PSh,.. with Properties/Material...and the slider is set to plastic.

And I agree... this image is very much manipulated.

Re: Can someone PLEASE help me with this photo sty

thankyou all immensly...
although the light is different, I've been testing all of the methods for the skin on pictures i have taken previously of the model. Desturating the reds works very well as a starting point as it retains some colour in the skin and is not just cold grey. I also used "lighting effects" and used shiny and plastic on the settings, then set it to about 15% and erased all areas other than the skin to add more shine. I then blended it out with a blurred and inverted high pass filter set to soft light. (40%)

I will try and upload my samples so u can all let me know what you think.

As for the techical side (lighting, wind..etc..) i was panicking a bit about how it would all look and not be too amaturish but you;ve given the the confidence to give it a go. I fell in love with the photographer and thios image and had to do somthing along them lines, but really didnt think i would be able to pull it off lol

Im going to upload (a bad) picture of the dress so if you have any more pointers, you can see what i mean

thanks very much again

Stephen
