How To Achieve This Look

Hello All,

I’ve been contacted by a burlesque performer who would like to try and replicate a certain look, she’s provided me with an image but I seem to suck in this area as my Photoshop knowledge/skills are not that good.

This is the image she would like to replicate.

I had a very quick play about and came up with this, which as you can see is an epic failure.

It seems that the text and black lines on the background would have an opacity of less than 100%; also it appears to have the same pattern on the overall image as well as the different colours of red.

Would anyone happen to have an idea on how to recreate this look if you have the time to post?

Many Thanks,

Jason

Re: How To Achieve This Look

Hey Dork Knight,

I am no expert but I would get an image of some sort of old paper and place this on a new layer 'above' the image at present. Then if you play around with the layer modes and opacity of the new 'paper' layer you should get something closer to what you are looking for. Maybe an 'overlay' or 'multiply' mode and then lower opacity to suit?

A quick google search found these paper images:
http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=...N&hl=en&tab=wi

as I say though I am no expert so it will be interesting to see what other replies and suggestions are offered. Good luck!

Thank you Fuzquia - I'll have a play about with the old paper/textures and blend modes later.

Thank You,

Jason

Just trying different things. I thought this exemplified her look.

How about a post of a copy of the original picture she provided so we can work on a copy that has not already been manipulated

Re: How To Achieve This Look

I've yet to do the new shoot with her, the picture I used was from a previous shoot - So I'm just trying to work out if I can achieve the look before committing to a shoot.

That being said, here's the image if you would like to have a play about;

Cheers,

Jason

I tried quickly. But uh nah - it didn't work out that well. But if you look in the shadows in the picture that we're trying to replicate - they are all clipped. So it's something with contrast allright. I used saturation, overlay and poster edges to make my try.

I used one of the Free actions called 'Antique Book' contained in a set from Mike Finn located at the bottom of the page @ Download all my FREE actions in one zip file then cut her out and put her on your sample background

(a couple clicks! )
