I like to use natural masks, you know masks achieved by channel manipulation for best integration and results; basically with three types of base masks like luminosity masks, saturation masks and color masks there is the ability to "isolate" everything, of course I tweak these masks via calculation/apply image/dodge&burn/curves/...
Sometimes there is a need for manual masking too.

I looked the photos and the best one for this pourpose I think it was the first you posted. I also like the 132.

Picadilly, I'm amazed by the first RAW you put here... I'm wondering how did you get such good contrast ratio without losing shades in the transition between dark areas and lit areas. What kind of light you use? I would love if you explain a bit how was the setup and the lights you used

1 soft box somewhere above them
1 hard light (with pink plastic bag) directed at the floor
1 hard light (with blue filter) directed somewhere to the right and down)
