Don't worry about it - I was just talking about the image where I think there is a flattening of tone in the face and flesh a little http://users.skynet.be/gee/retouchpro01.jpg

All adjustments and adjustment layers are slightly damaging. So if you have a technique where you are applying very many, then posterization will happen.

The black and white one I can see where you are going with it. B&W of course has a history of 'pushed' where they would expose and develop, in balance to boost contrast and film grain. Maybe try using some Grain maybe to break apart, then its more convincing? And sort out that outline mask, look at your channels.

Yes I meant maybe something more like this, where you introduce some texture and a grad into it will help? Masking different exposures like you were is a little difficult to make work.
About the adjustements & adjustement layers i try to not use 45 curves layers without any masking for example. I try to use them in blend modes as COLOR/LUMINOSITY & really never in overlay/softlight etc

yes, i like to push my black n white
i like gritty noisy black n white, last week i shooted during the afternoon at 3200ISO just to have a certain rendering

yes, about the small example you posted i should have doin this like that :/
anyway i want to be closer to the ads looking? clean/sharp tones evened.
a couple of agencies came at me few months ago cuz they liked my work already so i wanna push further in that direction. but with all the economic crisis it seems fucked up for me right now.

i want clean tones. clean masks. clean colors. cleans textures.
having a really proper lightning - long time ago i lik'd having strong highlights everywhere due to rim lights but right now i like shooting scenes with only one strobe as fill...

i think that aswell at different levels though..

there is no effects really.
slighty surexposated pictures lifted with one strobe or more for fill and boucing back the sun, pushing down saturation and crankin a lil bit the vibrance then adjusting layers where its needed.
i do not use the same things at every image, it depends what it needs etc etc.

one thing i like to do though, is using one channel, mostly the blue one for adding contrast in a way i like more than curves.

but im still lookin & improving.
at the end of the year i hope i will do proper portraits with a proper background & with a storyline etc etc etc.
i need to level up.

anywya thanks, glad u like it.
if anyone got another tips i'd be glad to hear it.
i like this forum a lot, even if sometimes i do not like leechers like Mtmmmm who leach 200 pages in a topic and won't share a single thing : ppP

Good work on the skin of this new pic. I just find a bit distracting the glossine in the forehead, the left collarbone and below the nose, in the left area. The contrast in the left shoulder is a bit hard too, meaning there is some posterization. Overall, the pic looks nice... Didn't tryed something a bit less saturated? I think it will look nice, and even in grayscales

I did an edit but I don't know how to upload images here, don't know how to embbed it too. Will see... Well... I certainly cannot find any thread talking about how to post images here. Something I always find dissapointing is the search in forums feature in every forum I know.

I will upload the image to photobucket, hope you don't get mad because of that. I will erase the pic if you want that. It's just for visual purposes

yo, on this one, except from tweaking a lil bit the tones and the overal contrast there is nothing else.

yeah, probably it may look nice in bw or less saturated but i don't think this one is 'that saturated'
i don't like doing saturated pics anymore
and i don't like editing pics in black and white if it wasnt planned during the shoot:
i would choose another lightning if so!

im gonna shoot few snapshots tomorrow and few ones with action inside this weekend.
those will probably be lifted with a lot of light so its gonna be really crisp & more agressive.

i didnt fix the skin textures etc etc etc.
it was a old shoot that i just dropped online cuz i didnt have something more recent.

ha ha that's a classic, nice one snook!

re: the brown colour tones, ever tried an adjustment layer either photo filter or hue/saturation set to the a pale brown colour. Set to softlight blending mode and then reduce opacity and mask accordingly...probable to simple for this job but done carefully it can look pretty good....
