bw/tones etc! lot of tips overal the thread!

hello everyone !
i've been practicing a lot lately.
can't stop basically!

so.
few questions.
do u think i still can improve that kind of black&white rendering?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/gkayacan/3770740254/

on the otherside, i'm still lookin up for few tips about evening the tones.
i'm trying again and again and again.
when i say evening the tones it's like i dunno. like in ads photography?
you know? really proper tones, they don't go in a lot of directions!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/gkayacan/3589944367/

i need to control the colors!
i really need!
i use a big mix of curves/few layers in color mode in low opacity.
but that's still not enough.
i need to really go further that.

do u know few books who talk about COLORS?
of course it needs practice, but i need some theory also!
cheerz for the tip!

color books should talk about theory.
and the theory is good, but can block your creativity with the "DON'T MIX THIS COLORS EVER". You have the palettes too, but i'm still searching too a good method for apply them.

i made some editorials recently and some MUA and stylish people were obsessed with "green-pink NO!" "black-purple YES"...etc (those are invented by me).

and one day some guy check a magazine, see the color rule broken and "oh that's cool".

i'm using adjustment layers too on my works.
a lot of combinations with opacity and stuff...but yeah...i know what you mean, i can't find it yet.

Hey Gee, I really like your brown tone your getting in your images.. care to share alittle bit on how your getting that? I asked you in another thread and you said a little bit of this a little bit of that. Could you be a little more specific. Maybe a PSD?
Are you doing most in RAW converter.
I really like the brown tone you are getting. Could you post a before and after and or maybe a small res psd with the laters to see what layers.
Thanks
Snook

hello every1.
i don't have much time right now but im gonna drop original/final images this week-end.
anyway, like i already told it: i'm keepin searchin'. i'm far from 'having it'. i just got few clues but that does not go much further.

i start with OVEREXPOSATED images.
not THAT MUCH of course, i still need data, but i start from there.
then for the color ones, i desaturate a lil bit under camera raw, doing minor adjustements there and there... then it's a mix of curves/hue/sat/color blended layers etc. i'll try to be more specific this week-end but i have to warn you: i'm at the same point as everyone want to 'have it'!

anyway:
a new one

and the ones where i've been the much closer i could from what i want to:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/gkayacan/3589944367/

check out the exifs on the flickr's pages, might help

I think the problems with your images are nothing to do with color. Your sense of color is the last thing you have to worry about.

The grayscale one http://www.flickr.com/photos/gkayacan/3774469687/ - its more a problem with a TERRIBLE cutout than anything else. The hair and edges should properly be masked, not some dodgy clipping path that you've got.

This one http://www.flickr.com/photos/gkayacan/3589944367/ - nice colors, but massively oversharpened.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/gkayacan/3751255119/ - again great image, color and the feel is excellent. Terrible local contrast move or oversharpening, which has destroyed it.

In RAW - beware of 'Clarity' and 'Contrast' - they have their uses, but are really just fake filtration processes that can destroy images.

i'm with Mark on his last phrase.
i want to add the RECOVERY tool.
its extremely bad for the edges on hair, arms and face.

and Gee, i like your shots, some are very creatives and color is not bad, but yeah, you need "it". a little touch, i don't know how to describe, same feeling as me.

maybe if we put on common the kind of photography and fx you want to do, people could give you an useful feedback.

Re: bw/tones etc etc : ) check it out!

mark, did u saw the big sized? or the 500pxl longer flickr basic versions?
cuz i sharpen a lil bit my pics when i drop them online. then flickr sharpen them again...

the thing u says about sharpening aren't there when i look at the pics @100% in photoshop

same for clariy: i do not go further than 20.
sometimes up to 24 when i use a lens like the 24mm f/3.5 TS-E on a 5DMarkII

keep me updated!

(i don't push contrast either, i'm still on the 25 basics. sometimes i push it down to 20, sometimes max to 28,29)

Ok are you using a High radius High Pass, or Unsharp mask?

if Flickr is doing that to them then you need to work it out, and subtract what they are doing so the oversharpening won't kill your images.

Maybe a bit less severe contrast moves overall - highlights are a bit flat and blown.
