i love the vintage color but i really LOVE the black and white of the boy looks like a ralph lauren ad.

Play with a curves layer for the "vintage" look adjust the red channel in the curves layer to an shallow S and then play from there, the black and white you can achieve something like that with a curves layer as well, first you do your B&W procedure of choice and then play with the mid tones of the curve leaving the highlights anchored with an anchor point. After you achieve the "flattening of the mid tones" you then go again with another curves layer and play with the contrast. It won't get you exactly that look but you can get close to it.

By the way the photographer's work looks like its "actionfantastic" based most of what he/she's doing is either a preset or an action.

Nice pics, really. But the arm and hand of the little girl in the first photo gives me the creep!

I'm pretty sure those are done in Lightroom with some kind of preset

Devgrp is 10000000% right. By using the camera calibration combined with WB and all the time you want to spent by combining with other parameters you will get this looking and even much, much better ones.
