Question Manipulating sunglasses?

Hi people,

I'm into a work where I have to remove some reflections from a softbox umbrella from a semi transparent sunglasses (they're almost opaque). As far as I know, the trick is faking the glass with gradients but I cannot do something looking realistic.

I would appreciate any tip to achieve the real looking I'm looking for.

Thanks,

Mart

Re: Manipulating sunglasses?

Looks very dark. I hope hope the sunglasses are not the main subject of the of this image. I did use multiple drags of a gradient and some dodging on the plain dark area. I did not try to darken the other lens... it may help.

Thanks for the help Juergen. I put a gradient and a solid color but I need something even better. Here is the thing I did, looks horrible, I know, but I have never had to deal with this kind of thing.

Re: Manipulating sunglasses?

quick mockup on one side , not sure how realistic for your needs ... , sampled dark shadow from other glass to use as base then played with several curve al w/ grad masks eg subtly darker around edges , light from top left corner etc , then added some noise, also lighting effect from top left again, also subtle plastic wrap filter for some shine & hotspot, finally can add in a suitable reflection from any other image such as trees here... but use a good mask to begin with unlike mine...hope it helps, Mark

Re: Manipulating sunglasses?

it really boils down to this. Do you want a reflection?

if not, shoot the image twice, have the model remove the sunglasses on the 2nd shot, clone the eye back in where the lens is, and hit up the needed adjustments to re-tint it, then add whatever you want for reflection if you want one. that gives the best flaxability

unless yer doing this for a photog,

then just make due with what you can and ask them next time to reshoot without glasses to give you the needed info to make a quick correction. sames you time and them money

Re: Manipulating sunglasses?

I don't want adding a reflection (putting a pic on the glasses looks fake), I need a realistic solution, it's an studio shot.

Thanks to all for the tryings and the good will but it needs to be perfect and professional looking.

Re: Manipulating sunglasses?

Hey Quantum,
This is not supposed to be perfect, but it might help.
I started with an entirely new eye that I had from another job.

Wow man... really neat job... And very resourceful adding a new eye... Man, the result is stunning... I will study this result in detail.

Thank you very much for taking the time (seems it took a lot of it) and for posting the layers in the screenshot. Very kind from you.

Will try this!!!
