And...

That one is a really simple retouch.

I made it for a class I'm teaching and thought I'd share it... nothing in that psd is rocket science tho

I also thought it would be nicefor a lot of ppl to actually see the layers.

Re: Beauty retouch psd

Hello to everyone and excuse me for my english, i'am a newbie and i have a really simple question for you retoucher.
I've downloaded the psd file (thanks for sharing!!) and i'am trying to reproduce to learn.
Of course, as a newbie, i was stopped at the first stage...
I have already met that thing but i don't really know how to do.
I'am talking about the mask on the right of "cold convertion", first step of retouch.
i've done a mask, inverted that to black and painted with white on the eyes to bring back the colour. ok, right here is fine.
but what is all that grey around the model? is it done with brush? which grey is it? is done to bring back a little bit of colour or what?
excuse me for my question that i know is stupid but even going forward in the retouch there is some D&B done with this grey..
thank you for listening,

Francesco Poli

It's just lower opacity when painting.

http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html (Everything there is helpful for a beginner but scroll down to Advanced CS3 Masking with Monsters! to learn more about mask)

Thank you godmother, i've tried and (obviously) it worked!
i have another question if you don't lose your patience first..
when you do D&B it's done on a grey layer, which is the meaning of that and how can i do that? i've tried to search in internet or in the forum but i haven0t found nothing, maybe i've searched wrong, i don't know.
Thank you for your patience and very good work!

Bye!

I'd recommend against the action/scripts tho.... not accurate, do it manually or create an action/script yourself.

Also be very selective when reading the rest of that thread... a lot of BS and crappy techniques recommended there.

as for the 60 group It's a split done with a 60 Glausian blur (This is not arbitrary, it depends on the image size and the detail want) then we lose the low pass, invert the high pass (done with apply image) and blur this 20 (always 1/3 of the first GB), masked out and painted white on the mask just where needed.

This can be very easily over done, so use it with discretion.

This is destructive, but when applied tastefully it looks good.

Thank u for the nice comments.

Thank you! I love this technique, and it works.
