Re: Beauty retouch psd

Thank you so much for posting a fully functional PSD file. Very Inspiring.
Nice to see how other are working. You have my gratitude for the opportunity.

I just couldn't resist, so I did the same retouch, based on your file, and your workflow.
Everything is clear to me, except the two layer groups, named; SPLIT & 60

I understand the use of High-Pass layer for sharpening, and inverted option for smoothing out the skin, witch is something similar to what you did.
So I tried to replicate it and no luck --- could you please explane just what exactly did you do in those two layer groups?

I have borrowed your "Eyelashes". Sorry for that. but I was just too lazy.
Amazing work on them and the entire image, by the way. Hope to see more form you.
In terms of PSD-s and workflow-s.

Here is a link to mention retouch by me:
http://www.borishnatjuk.net/Gallery/...1508-copy.html

And off course, I would like the hear your/expert opinion of the subject.
Cheers!

I think what you did is wrong in many many ways.

And I hope that link it's only for retouchpro and curiosity and practice purposes.

Natalia - You are amazing. That is kind of great help for beginners and semipros, to see someones else workflow with all the details in psd. Big, big thanks.

WOW, nice!

May I ask how do you use liquify filter?
When I use it the whole picture gets blurry...

Re: Beauty retouch psd

Jumping up and down with excitement Natalia. Can't wait to get to a system where I can look at this. Thanks sooo very much for sharing, I love your retouching.

MilanS, I hope your post was just a misunderstanding and you do not intend to use your copy retouch in any portolfio's but only posted for Natalia to critique. I think it is ok to do what you did to practice and improve but not to use those results to pass off as your own. You need to take what you have learned and apply it on a different file and use THAT in a portfolio. So few retouches will share to this level, as Natalia did, please respect that as a learning opportunity only.

Re: Beauty retouch psd

Thanks, although I'm not entirely sure how to deconstruct this without anything in the history to step backwards through (newbie alert LOL). Yes, I see all the things in the layer palette, which make some sense - but for instance I cannot seem to find a way to even see a "before" version.

on the background layer, you will see the eye icon. hold down the option key or alt on a pc, and then click on the eye icon. that will hide all other layers.

You hould start with some basic PhotoShop tutorials, not photo retouching. When the tool will become like normal pen for You (You will know how to use it, what is for what etc), then those kind of problems will not happend. Still, some of "steps" Natalia have made may be unclear, but knowledge may help You to understand what and where .

Re: Beauty retouch psd

Question:

What is the advantage of doing the healing work on "high" in the split group over doing it on a normal layer? I know you mentioned something about it separating texture and tone is that why?

Did you merge any tonal changes you made to the "low" layer in that same group? Only reason I ask is that there don't seem to be any adjustment layers on that.

If you could you go into a little detail on this group and the advantages of using it generally that would be great.

Thanks in advance

(and thank's for posting the psd in the first place)

I have 80 GB of monthly transfer !

Very smart on my side.... I'm going to have to ask for more to my hosting just so my clients can actually download files! LOL

Ok, uploading this to megaupload so this same thing doesn't happen next month.

I'll paste the link when it's done uploading.

xx

Re: Beauty retouch psd

Is there a technical term or technique named after the split group layers? I'm interested in learning more about this. Thanks.

Got it Toan, thanks!

Sorry, I never RTFM (LOL) and am already doing a lot of retouching work quite successfully - the missing "history" stuff I was inquiring about would involve showing all of the individual steps on a layer. For instance - the Liquify Layer - clearly that was not achieved by putting a giant "pucker" on the middle of her head. LOL Seeing the history steps would be more helpful than the before and after on a layer. With all such steps unveiled from the process, one could really deconstruct, and hopefully learn some new things!

Re: Beauty retouch psd

Godmother, could you explain your high and low layers? What exactly are doing to get this and why you are doing it?

I saw the link to the "degrunge" technique, and while I think its something similar, you use it to taste way better.

Thanks for sharing.
