My first thought was the same. But how often it happens when the client wants a retoucher to do some crazy reshaping of the model's body. To take away some parts which actually make her human.
In this case it's hard to blame only the retoucher. They approved the photo it means that's what they were asking for

agree with skauskas...

but this is neither here nor there when it comes to the retouch... it's not enough to pass as an artistic retouch, nor is esthetically pleasing imho.

it reminds me a bit of loretta's work, but as I said there you can see the artistic touch, where here looks just creepy.

I don't know how you come to that conclusion from that page. What it means is that 'good retouchers' are being replaced by designer bloke with a copy of Photoshop on his PC. In Japan that one was.

Basic opportinism on the part of the model there. Looks like they most probably let her go for reasons that they are very politely keeping to themselves. Models at her level KNOW how much goes on in post. Could obviously be wrong, but its actually unlikely that in her case her firing has anything to do with weight, when there doesn't seem to be any evidence of that. Its some MSNBC news editor trying to construct an item to make pre-decided point, out of an unrelated story.

Re: Retouching, The Industry and the Profession.

I was being a little sarcastic with that note....to me a good retoucher is more than a beauty retouch and a body makeover... it does appear that the standards expected for a high fashion commercial retouch is different from other venues. I found the article interesting since I have no idea what is expected in that particular industry.
