levels dialog box (Image low contrast) beggginer Moving the middle slider in the levels dialog box, would not make much of a difference, so how would i increase the contrast in the photo. Should i increase the contrast in the brightness and contrast dialog box, would this give more contrast inside the levels or not make a diffence. Images are not mine, off web Thank you please reply if you have understanding of the level box dialog cheers

Re: levels dialog box (Image low contrast) begggin sorry here is image of the pic, learn curves, ok i will check that out i have heard of it and used it to increase dark, light and contrast in a pic, but not correctly. thanks p.s does curve then increase the contrast in the levels dialog , im guessing the moutain peak to represent the contrast in a picthure would raise upwards in the middle section(contrast tones),

Re: levels dialog box (Image low contrast) begggin If I understood you correctly, you want to know, how levels work and how to enhance the contrast in your image with it? First of all you see the big black mountain in your levels histogram. Everywhere, where there are black pixels, there is a brightness value. To the left and to the right of the mountain are no black pixels, so there are no brightness values of this level in your image. To increase the contrast you can push your left (black) little triangle to the peak of the mountain to make everything left from it black and everything right to it nearer to black (simple: darker). Next you want to push your right (white) triangle to the left to increase the brightness of the lightest pixel. Brightness/Contrast is btw. a very lame command and you should be warned, that you should not use it before PS CS3 (it tended to wreck the image) or if you have the CS3 or higher don't check "Use legacy mode". Levels gives you more control anyways (curves do give you the most control but are a little more difficult to handle at the beginning).
