Retouch B&W Portraits

I want to try to retouch a B&W portrait and after the major blemishes are taken care of , I'm not sure which way to proceed from there. If anyone has suggestions I'm more than happy to try them. Also , in most cases would there be any special adjustments to consider before starting a B&W project?
Thanks for any and all recommendations.

Re: Retouch B&W Portraits

Hi Malart, your question is very vague. The advice will be different depending on subject (male / female / old / young / group / individual / ...), as well as your image intent and other factors. More information would likely produce greater response. Better yet, a picture is worth 1000 words, so if you could attach an image, you would probably receive very specific suggestions.

Re: Retouch B&W Portraits

If the portrait started out in Color and was converted to B&W, I would go back to the color image and apply a B&W adjustment layer.
