Re: Retouching books and DVD tutorials

I don't think there is anything wrong in promoting something that is in beta. We talked plenty about the series 2 Digital photoshop retouching and that isn't out either. Only a few weeks to go and both will be out. :-)

Cal: I'm interested in your whole collection ..i find your work just bloddy amazing...since i'm norwegian, and took german-lessons in school, i should be able to somewhat follow you...well...most of it anyway ..i see peeps in here discuss the worth when it comes to money...well, some things are priceless in my opinion...and the fact that someone uses their time and effort to make a DVD for us, that really need this help, tips and tricks..to me thats priceless. i'll pay what they say they want...i'm still gonna pay whit a big smile, and send them my warmest thanks for their effort!!!

Re: Retouching books and DVD tutorials

Hi Steve
I think you dont need the whole german collection.
Better choose the englisch Version what you can find here
http://www.calvinhollywood-blog.com
Then you will save money:-)

Everybody can decide if he like to pay for a dvd or not.
I also buy dvds (sometimes photoshop basics - no kidding)

Most of the people expect NEW techniques and one klick effects.
But i think its more important to see how other people work.
Of course the technique is important too, but i learned the most by "reading between the lines".

And without the right photography the best photoshop trick will not effect.

Re: Retouching books and DVD tutorials

Hi I'm also interested, but honestly I can't cope with watching DVDs. I need my PS nearby when I try a technique. I also prefer reading far from my computer when I need to see the logic of it all ( I mean I'm reading with a piece of paper and a pen, and I try to figure out the "system" involved)...I'm not into PDF as well as I find it's exhausting for the eyes and requires too much concentration to read on a screen (try to read the CS4 manual from page 1 to 700 and so on a display to see what I mean). I really do prefer books. I have the Eisman books (masks and compositing + restorations and retouching) and would like to test more "fashion" oriented ones.... But if you check on Amazon for reviews it seems that you need to buy them all, everything is so wonderful...If anyone has a book that would recommend strongly, I'm all ears! (her..., eyes) Thanks!

Re: Retouching books and DVD tutorials

I can't handle learning via pdf either. I need to see where the curser is going and obviously most photographers are visual people anyway. You can get a cheap short course DVD in model retouching for about $60 at:

at http://retouchingtechniques.com/

Adds up to about 4.5hrs.

Re: Retouching books and DVD tutorials

i'd say you should get only one dvd by Natalia Taffarel and learn the basics. After that you have to build your own way of retouching. I find her technique good but she doesn't share everything with you so you have to see where the flaws are and replace them with a different way of retouching.

the most important thing is to read lots of blog posts about the "high end" retouching and see how each person is using it.
