Retouching books and DVD tutorials

Hi. Could you recommend me some good books or DVD tutorials about retouching.
I already watched DVD tutorials from Chris Orwig. It was really informational, but I want more. I heard about Kelby training DVDs as well... I would be greatful for more tips.

Adobe Photoshop Restoration & Retouching - Katrin Eismann

Check the reviews at Amazon and search here at RP for other opinions. This book is considered by many to be the best around on retouching. Restoration topics excellent too.

She does DVDs too if you prefer that format. They are very good too.

Re: Retouching books and DVD tutorials

Hey,
I'm new at retouching, so I'm looking for same now. As far as I have encountered, Orwig's dvd's are great, cause he provides a lot of techniques and tips.
I really enjoyed watching Guy Gowan's "Cosmetique techniques" as well—he introduced me to calculations and working with channels. I also have his "Retouching workflow", though haven't seen it yet.
I could also recommend Gnomon workshop—Photographic Retouching in Adobe Photoshop with Meghan Farrell. Workflow was totally revealed during retouching two photographs in 13 clips.
And the last one—it's not about retouching, but close to it—I found my knowledge of channels insufficient—so I watched Photoshop CS3 Channels and Masks Advanced Techniques, to understand better how stuff works, like channel mixer and calculations, and what I can do with them.
Hope smth of it will be useful to you.

It looks fun, thanks!
No reason for being upset! I think this entry would be useful—http://www.calvinhollywood-blog.com/...s-this-sunday/
Calvin says that he'll produce an English DVD this winter, sounds good for me.
Also I'll try to join the webinar this Sunday.

The Jessica Loew one is pretty good, quite cheap too.

Stay away from the DigitalPhotoshopRetouch one though. Rip off.

What about the DVD (see the ad on this page): High End Beauty&Hair retouching. I have this DVD and this is top quality tutorial, easy to follow and very well done. You will learn a lot by viewing this tutorial.

Re: Retouching books and DVD tutorials

That's my mistake, I was talking about Retouching techniques Series 1. I don't know more about this new DVD than what is on this page:http://www.digitalphotoshopretouchin...ing-dvd-2.html

Re: Retouching books and DVD tutorials

Broto...I bought that CD...well packaged, nice shots, well advertised, good basic PS information...but basic...the DVD is over way over priced and I'd hate anyone else to spend their money unless money is no object.

corey I see you are still promoting the high $ DVD that is still in beta....

calvin...is the DVD in German or English? Looks like english

Re: Retouching books and DVD tutorials

I don't think there is anything wrong in promoting something that is in beta. We talked plenty about the series 2 Digital photoshop retouching and that isn't out either. Only a few weeks to go and both will be out. :-)

Cal: I'm interested in your whole collection ..i find your work just bloddy amazing...since i'm norwegian, and took german-lessons in school, i should be able to somewhat follow you...well...most of it anyway ..i see peeps in here discuss the worth when it comes to money...well, some things are priceless in my opinion...and the fact that someone uses their time and effort to make a DVD for us, that really need this help, tips and tricks..to me thats priceless. i'll pay what they say they want...i'm still gonna pay whit a big smile, and send them my warmest thanks for their effort!!!

Re: Retouching books and DVD tutorials

Hi Steve
I think you dont need the whole german collection.
Better choose the englisch Version what you can find here
http://www.calvinhollywood-blog.com
Then you will save money:-)

Everybody can decide if he like to pay for a dvd or not.
I also buy dvds (sometimes photoshop basics - no kidding)

Most of the people expect NEW techniques and one klick effects.
But i think its more important to see how other people work.
Of course the technique is important too, but i learned the most by "reading between the lines".

And without the right photography the best photoshop trick will not effect.

Re: Retouching books and DVD tutorials

Hi I'm also interested, but honestly I can't cope with watching DVDs. I need my PS nearby when I try a technique. I also prefer reading far from my computer when I need to see the logic of it all ( I mean I'm reading with a piece of paper and a pen, and I try to figure out the "system" involved)...I'm not into PDF as well as I find it's exhausting for the eyes and requires too much concentration to read on a screen (try to read the CS4 manual from page 1 to 700 and so on a display to see what I mean). I really do prefer books. I have the Eisman books (masks and compositing + restorations and retouching) and would like to test more "fashion" oriented ones.... But if you check on Amazon for reviews it seems that you need to buy them all, everything is so wonderful...If anyone has a book that would recommend strongly, I'm all ears! (her..., eyes) Thanks!
