Why won't my opacity drop?

Why won't my opacity drop?

I can't get my opacity to drop. Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong...thanks

Some more info would be nice ;-)
What opacity are you talking about? Layer's opacity (normal or fill?), brush's opacity, opacity in a gradient etc.
And what are you doing?

You can't adjust the opacity of your background layer, doh!

Just kidding, you've given us no clue as to what you're actually doing or not doing, so all any of us can do is make wild assumptions.

Sorry, I'm new at this. I made a duplicate layer and I wanted to fade out the picture so I could use it for a background for a collage. I did slide the arrow down to 50% but nothing happened. Is there something else I need to do?

Did you turn off the background layer? Maybe it's showing through...

If you've duplicated the layer and then faded it, it would reveal the layer that you jaut duplicated -- so it would look the same at any percentage. If you turn off the background layer or add a new layer in between and fill it with white or black then you'll be able to see the change in opacity.
