How does she achieve this look

I'm intrigued by the photos of Monika Brand. At first sight they do not look that special, but in my opinion they really are. Has she done something with the B/W conversion? Some special retouching?
Anyway, please have a look at http://www.brand-photography.com/ . Go to "Gallery" - "Portraits".

Thx,
Herman

Re: How does she achieve this look

Hello Jan,
I checked the website and there are really compelling images there. The interesting models and the definitely good lighting make them so good.

On the retouching side, I don't think there's much involved. Most of the images don't appear to have any in my opinion. The BW images are slightly toned with sepia and similar colors which achieves this warm look.

Re: How does she achieve this look

this is shot on film. some of it might be large format work.

you can't really replicate it in photoshop, but to get close you'd use channel mixer/bw/calculations to make the bw, and tone it warmer with cb/selective color/duotones...

Even easier is get Alien skin exposure plug in and or DFX tiffen filters FX filter and have a ball..
A lot of grain in those images as well that you are not going to get with the above advice only..
Good luck

You could use Nik's Silver Efex Pro. There's a built in grain engine that you can use to get the film look. Actually, the new Lightroom 3 Beta has a grain engine as well, so you might try that, too.
