Animated Look

Every once in awhile I'll see a movie poster where the actors have been retouched so heavily that they look almost animated or painted. I imagine it's a lot of smoothing and dodge/burn on a well-lit image(dare I say not unlike Dave Hill or Joey L), but in these particular cases the effect is so strong that it doesn't really look like a photograph.

Does anyone know how to get this kind of look?

I've been looking for an example, but this is the best I can come up with on short notice, though I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

Re: Animated Look

i can't quite see the details in the movie posters like that...

but for the pinup I basically cleared the high and mid frequency from the skin, making it smooth/plastic/painted.
also, colorized the skin to be in one colour tones
... so that was about it for the pinup (mask and background added of course)
