Sigh. I've got major skill envy right now after looking at this, and just had to share.

I've been told that's a composite of different girls' faces. All of the portraits from that collection were constructed the same way.

If you seriously do want to learn how to retouch like that, go enroll in drawing/painting classes at your community center. Retouching like that is a mix of fine art rendering and retouching - beautiful.

You can see the rest of the collection here http://www.desireedolron.com/work.aspx, under the xteriours section.

A composite of different girls' faces? Holy ****. That's ambitious! And yes, I do want to learn to retouch like that, and have a background in drawing, some painting, and currently portrait photography.

I'm very intrigued to attempt something like this now, with the help of a good stylist and makeup person. That porcelain skin is incredible.

Great, so you've got a head start! Focus on portrait painting and life drawing. See if there are classes at a local community college or art school you can sign up for. If you're already capable of rendering shapes in 3D space (perspective), then download "Figure Drawing for all it's Worth" by Andrew Loomis. It's free and IMO the best and most accurate way to learn anatomy. Once you can paint a beautiful female face (and I mean really paint it, not memorize how to draw certain angles. you should be able to tilt the head in any direction by starting with geometric forms and adding details last), you'll be able to work that knowledge of the planes and forms of the face into your dodge and burn reshaping and color balance/luminance masking.

Looking forward to seeing your stuff! Post here often, I want to see you painterly-retouching progress! I've got to start working on this stuff more too.

Here are some links I just posted in another thread that will greatly help you, especially #3:
