Everybody seems to agree that it all depends on how far you want your hand to travel per screen distance. For us dodge&burners, a large tablet would make us look like tennis players (you know, one arm bigger than the other).

Re: TABLETS: Wacom Intuos 4 - Medium vs Large

I just bought the Large one, simply perfect for what i want to do. I have been studying both architecture and photography for the past 4 years and this allows me to utilise the features of the large tablet to its full capacity.

Re: TABLETS: Wacom Intuos 4 - Medium vs Large

I am using an intuitos 4 medium format and have a 30 inch cinema display. I find it tracks very well over the whole image and my arm doesn't get tired like it used to with my old intuitos 2 extra large tablet. I didn't like the old tablet as it took up too much desktop real estate and found it hard to draw on with precise control because I had to move my hand too far.

My intuitos 4 has a smooth surface (just as smooth as the intuitos 2) so is not wearing down pen nibs; I have not had to change a nib once during the 4 months I have owned it.

Re: TABLETS: Wacom Intuos 4 - Medium vs Large

Is it possible to buy the intuos 4 with a smoove surface or have you covered the surface?
All this talk of replacing nibs reaaly puts me off.
thanks
rob

Mine just came with a smooth surface. I bought it from B and H in NYC. You could call Wacom and see where they sell them. I have not seen the rough surface one that everyone is complaining about.
