Sash-
To clean up the cutout you could use a soft smudge tool to push the edge of the mask closer into the hair and wherever else it's needed, works quite well. That's actually a tip from Godmother.

Re: Need some thoughts on this photoretouch

Now seeing what you are trying to achieve, I agree with JohnnyQuest.
I would also try drawing hair in, make a hair brush, draw hair separate layer, blur, USM, change blending modes. etc.

If you have PS4, you should try adjusting the vibrance on the up half of the figure if you are really dead set on the color. Curves are a beautiful feature especially when changing blending modes on them.

The sample of what you are trying to achieve is much softer. and has a nice glow to it. Your girl looks like she was cut and pasted in. hard..the lighting/colors from the artificial background might need to be reflected on to her, blend her in with the setting.

Like in the sample, the background is greens, purples, magenta..they are all reflected on to the highlights/shadows of her hair and body. So the image looks more natural even though we know it is an unrealistic setting.

When working with compositing images, think of it like a real photograph. Light source is very important, how would your background reflect onto her body? Just food for thought. Hope this helps.
good luck.

Re: Need some thoughts on this photoretouch

I think that you leave to many white parts around her, to erase the white around her, you should use a smooth brush with a little size in order to merge the girl with the background like a natural photo.

Sometimes when the edges are too sharp it's not natural at all. For the hair play with the opacity in order to merge them with the background

Regards,

Don't select hair with a brush... no. Use channels.

I do it also, but to have something very refined sometimes you have to modify little tiny things, it's where the brush comes to do its job

Exactly when you need a refined job on hair es when you don't use the brush... at least not in normal mode. Especially on an easy situation such as dark hair over white background.
