how to fix halos, or prevent them, when selecting

Hi, just got back into my photo biz after a 5 yr absence...need some refreshers. When I select or mask an object and then do adjustments, how do I fix or prevent the litttle halo line around the selection ?

Thanks....

Crete a more accurate mask to begin with, use Quickmask to refine the mask with the brush or shape tools etc... You can also use "Refine Edge", or I prefer to use gaussian blur as it gives a more natural roll off. It often helps to switch to black and white view, using the tilde key when in quickmask mode, to gauge the amount of blur required.

Bruce I. -
This comes with a big bow to Godmother - make the selection into a layer mask and use the smudge tool with a soft edge to push the edge of the mask back into the subject.

I'm with MacBurg, Refine Edge is a good place to begin. However, if you have an older version of PS that does not have that command or even if you prefer some tradional PS tools, you can try:
Layer > Matting > DeFringe
Layer > Matting > Remove Black Matte
Layer > Matting > Remove White Matte
Filter > Other > Maximum
Filter > Other > Minimum
Regards, Murray
